Ernst Schwidder's Liturgical Art

June 11 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Location: Garfield Book Company Community Room

From 1967 to his 1992 retirement, Ernst Schwidder taught art and headed the art department at PLU. His principle medium was mahogany wood, but he also worked in metal sculpture, concrete, stone and fabric art. Over 300 of his liturgical pieces are displayed in churches across the country.

Three retired pastors have formed The Schwidder Project, which aims to record Schwidder pieces in our region, and to encourage an understanding of how art enhances worship. Rev. Roger Slywester and Rev. Richard Tietjen will give a class on this Project for Learning Is ForEver. PLU students, staff and faculty may attend without charge.
