Scandinavian Area Studies

B.A. and Minor in Scandinavian Area Studies

In addition to required language courses, students select from course topics ranging from the Viking Age to Scandinavia in world affairs, and from folklore to film. The curriculum is designed as a broad-ranging inquiry into the development of Nordic cultures and the relevance of this often overlooked region in today's global community. Classes in the program are small, and attention to each student's unique academic focus is an integral part of the advising process.

As an interdisciplinary program, Scandinavian Area Studies strongly encourages students to take courses in a variety of disciplines that can help in understanding Scandinavia, and many students choose second majors in complementary fields.
