Enjoy sacred sites, culinary delights in Italy’s Umbrian Hills

May 27 to June 10, 2005

The 2005 tour to be hosted by the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations marks the first to central Italy. By the Tiber, in the Umbrian hill country and along the River Arno, guests will explore the history, arts and cuisine of early Christian Rome, medieval Assisi, Cortona and Renaissance Florence. The trip includes accommodations of history and character, breakfast and six evening meals, luxury motor coach transportation, sightseeing, entrance fees and English speaking guides. Also available are a tour and wine tasting at a private castle, a visit to an organic olive farm and a Tuscan cooking class. Hosts are Samuel Torvend ’73, professor of European religious history, and Director of Alumni and Parent Relations Lauralee Hagen ’75, ’79. Cost, not including airfare, is $3,090 for a shared room or $3,545 for a single.

Get connected with alumni online

One of the best ways to stay connected with your friends and PLU is to become a member of the PLU Alumni Online Community. Search for friends and make new connections. Membership is free and exclusive to alumni. All you need to do to take advantage of the community is to proceed through the easy registration process below.

  • Begin at www.plualumni.org. Click the “PLU Online Community” link and go to “Click Here to Register Now.” This involves filling in your first and last name as well as your official graduation year. Be sure to fill in the entire year (i.e. 1986 rather than 86). When this is complete, select “Find My Record.”
  • The following screen will show all the records matching the search criteria you have just entered. Select your name.
  • To verify that this is your record, you will be asked for your alumni ID number. This number is listed on the label of this magazine.
  • You will now choose your own user ID and password for continual access to the online community. Once you have agreed to terms and conditions, click the “Complete Registration” button. A confirmation e-mail will be sent if you have requested it.
  • You are now registered! As a member of the Online Community, you may update your current information, search the directory for your friends, or establish contacts by bookmarking them. Contact us with any questions at alumnicommunity@plu.edu or 253-535-7415.

Grandparents are part of the PLU family

Grandparents are an important part of the PLU family, too. If you know grandparents of current students who would like to become more involved and invested with their grandchildren’s university, we’d love to know. Please forward their mailing information and student’s name to us, and we will keep them informed of our latest news and events.

As a PLU grandparent, they will receive Scene four times a year, in addition to special invitations to attend PLU family events.
