A time of joy and inspiration. Join us for Christmas at PLU
The time for awe inspiring music is coming soon. Please join Pacific Lutheran University's Choir of the West, the University Chorale and members of the University Symphony Orchestra in what has become one of the region's most inspirational Christmas celebrations. Students spend hundreds of hours preparing for the five concerts they perform each holiday season. Please check at the PLU Christmas Web site for more information on the concerts and buying tickets.
PLU Mainstage Theatre presents The Seagull
This December, PLU's theater season continues with a play that evokes a deeply moving human experience on a pristine estate over the warm summer months. Acclaimed playwright Tom Stoppard, winner of four Tony Awards, brings new life to the hurricane of unrequited love, desperate dreams, and paralyzing fear of failure that is Anton Chekhov's immortal play The Seagull. The production is entirely produced by PLU theatre students. Senior Noam Blanks is directing the play. Every year the second mainstage production is directed by a senior bachelor of fine arts student.
Botswana and Debate at christmastime
When most of their friends are unwrapping their Christmas gifts, Alexis Briggs '12 and Ashley Skinner '13, will be checking their lists, and then checking them twice, and probably quickly re-reading a few back issues of "The Economist" magazine as they head for the airport. A few days and many hours later, the pair, along with their debate coach, Professor Melissa Franke, will land in Botswana to compete against the world's best in the World Universities Debate Championships. More than 320 debating teams, along with 150 judges, will converge on the land-locked county's capital, Gaborone, for a week of debate preliminaries. PLU's Speech and Debate Team will be joining other U.S. teams from MIT, Stanford, Harvard and Yale at the tournament. There are preliminary rounds and then 32 teams head on to the finals. Read more about the team here.
