Leaders of Distinction: Developing Leaders
In 2002 the Division of Student Life introduced two special awards aimed at recognizing undergraduates for their leadership in our community. We are pleased to continue this tradition of leadership recognition at PLU by asking for your help in identifying the continuing students who have gone above and beyond to serve in our community.
Nominating a Student for Leader of Distinction
Who to nominate?
To be eligible for recognition, students must meet all of the following criteria:- Be affiliated with a recognized student organization or university unit;
- Have an identifiable leadership role attained by election, appointment, hiring, etc.;
- Be a full time undergraduate student;
- Be expected to enroll at PLU for the next academic year; and
- Be in good academic and disciplinary standing.
How to nominate?
Your nominating narrative should highlight your nominee's activities, accomplishments and positions of leadership, both on campus and in the community.Faculty, staff and students are asked to submit nomination letters that include the following:
- The position(s) of leadership held by the nominee and his/her organizational affiliation(s);
- A description of the leadership skills (goal setting, delegation, recognition, collaboration, etc.) demonstrated by the nominee and how s/he uses these skills to benefit the PLU community;
- A description of leadership attributes (care for others, initiative, consensus seeking, etc) the nominee possesses, and ways in which these characteristics support the success of his/her organization(s); and
- An outline of the criterion you used to evaluate this student.
Eligible nominees will be evaluated by a selection committee who will forward recommendations to be approved by the Vice President Student Life.
Nominations are typically one page in length. Submit your nominations by email as a word document attachment to sil@plu.edu
