Student Involvement and Leadership

Leader of Distinction Nomination- Example #1

These nominations highlight the student's accomplishments, areas of leadership and involvement in and outside of PLU , also including how the nominator  has personally been impacted by this student.

Suzy  Lute

It is my pleasure to nominate Suzy Lute for the Leaders of Distinction recognition this year.  I currently supervise Suzy in the Student Involvement and Leadership Office in her role as one of the SIL Interns.  I had the pleasure of supervising Suzy as an Orientation Guide during New Student Orientation this past Fall.  I have also hired Suzy to be a Student Orientation Coordinator for this summer.  In that role, she will be responsible for supervising up to 40 Orientation Guides for 2007-2008 New Student Orientation.

Suzy brings much energy to her work, no matter what the task.  Her willingness to take risks as she plans activities for the PLU student community is impressive.  She does not aim for the status quo; instead, she tries to develop activities that reach broad student populations, reaching out to students who would not typically come to events.  She also brings a vision to her work in SIL that has led the Intern team to create a late-night campus life here at PLU.  Between Black and Gold Dances, PLU Night at the Mariners Game, and Casino Nights, she helps to make sure that there are plenty of late night activities for PLU students to enjoy as alternatives to negative behaviors such as underage alcohol use.

Suzy is able to balance and be successful in the many responsibilities and commitments she makes during each academic semester.  I know that she is very committed to class work and always makes homework and studying for exams her first priority.  She is an enthusiastic learner, striving to retain knowledge instead of simply getting a good grade.

It is without reservation that I enthusiastically recommend Suzy for the Leaders of Distinction recognition!  Suzy’s exemplary leadership and growth throughout the year truly embodies what PLU hopes each graduate takes with them into the world.
