There are many types of holds that are placed on student accounts and records for different circumstances. Each hold prevents basic University privileges, such as, but not limited to the right to register, add/drop classes, cash checks or receive copies of unofficial/official transcripts or a diploma. Listed below are types of holds that are placed on accounts and the offices to contact regarding them.

The Registrar's Office places Academic Holds on students with academic standing issues who must contact the Registrar. Registration for classes is not allowed until removed by the Registrar's Office. Back to list
Students on academic probation must meet with an advisor in the Academic Advising Office no later than the tenth day of the semester. Failure to do so will place students on an academic probation hold. Students on this hold may not add or drop classes or register. Back to list
The collection hold will remain on a student account until the balance is paid in full including any interest, collection, or legal fees. Once the account is paid in full this hold will become a collection paid hold. Any student wishing to return to the university must pay in full all of their estimated charges prior to registration. Clearance to return to the university is issued by the Accounts Receivable Department. Back to list
The collection paid hold will permanently remain on a student account. Any student wishing to return to the university must pay in full all of their estimated charges prior to registration. The collection write-off hold prohibits a student from returning to the university and/or receiving a diploma or transcripts. The balance written off on the student account must be paid prior to receiving university services. Once the account is paid in full this hold will become a Collection Paid Hold. Any student wishing to return to the university must pay in full all of their estimated charges prior to registration. Any student with a credit balance on their student account who is not registered for a future term or is listed as a graduating senior, will be placed on a Credit Balance Hold. The Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 63.29 Uniform Unclaimed Property Act requires the university to forward all unclaimed student account balances to the Washington State Department of Revenue unless the student requests a refund or donates their credit balance to the university. This hold will prevent the release of a student's university transcript. Back to list
If a student does not complete their Federal Perkins or Nursing Student Loan exit interview upon leaving the university, a hold will be put on the student account until complete. This hold will prevent the release of a student's university transcript. Back to list
If a student account is past due, a financial hold will be placed on the account. This hold will prevent the release of a student's university transcript and registration.Back to list

An International Hold is for international students who failed to comply with immigration or academic related requirements. For example, a hold will be placed on a new student's record who fails to do a physical check in with International Student Services and brings in their immigration related documents.

Students who have not submitted the Junior Review form are not allowed to register until the form is submitted to the Registrar's Office. Back to list
A medical hold prevents a student from registering if Health Center has not received the Medical History Form or if the student does not have the necessary immunizations. Back to list
All students are required to keep a current permanent address with the university. If mail becomes undeliverable, an address hold will be placed on a student's account. Back to list
Any student who has written two non-sufficient funds checks or has had checks returned for other reasons will be permanently placed on a Non-Sufficient Funds Hold. Any student with this hold is prohibited from writing checks to any University department. Back to list
All students are required to sign an online payment contract and select a payment option for each academic year they attend. Back to list
If a student has a delinquent balance over 60 days their account or loan may be placed on a Pre-Collection Hold and assessed a $25.00 pre-collection fee. Back to list
A Residential Life Hold is put on if a student has not completed a Confirmation of Living at Home Form or the Housing and Meal Plan Contract by the established deadline.This hold prohibits a student from adding or dropping classes, a university transcript and viewing student grades. Back to list
PLU Campus Safety can place a Restricted from Campus Hold on a student. This restricts the student from access to any university property and privileges. Back to list
Students must submit official final transcripts to the Registrar's office as part of their Admissions In-processing. Registration is not allowed until the transcript is received. Back to list
