Give and Go: Moveout 2014

In Spring 2014, Pacific Lutheran University partnered with Keep America Beautiful, College and University’s Recycling Coalition (CURC), and Goodwill Industries to pilot the Give and Go program. PLU is the first school in the Cascade Region to partner on this project, following a very successful program roll-out in 2013 on the east coast.

During spring move-out in May 2014, students saw a few changes on campus. We had three additional attended Goodwill donation centers on campus and one less bulk dumpster than the year before. Students brought furniture, clothes, and large household items to these locations. Similar to previous years, we also had small item donation collection in each residence hall lobby for clothes, shoes, and small household electronics. Additionally, there were collection boxes for any unopened non-perishable foods and ANY toiletries (even if they are half empty). The food was donated to Trinity Lutheran Church’s Food Bank. The toiletries went to Nativity House where they were be distributed to homeless shelters and those most in need. Finally, there were also collection bins for dishes from the Dining Hall.
