Seventeenth Annual High School Orchestra Invitational, Saturday October 19, Noon-7 pm, Lagerquist Hall

High school orchestras from throughout the region will perform on the Largerquist stage and receive comments from our guest clinician. The PLU Symphony Orchestra will also play a special 3 pm performance. This event is free and open to the public. No Tickets Needed. Visit for more information.

Orchestra Series I: Tuesday October 15, 8 pm, Lagerquist Hall

This concert will feature music of Dvorak, Smetana, Janacek and PLU's own Clement Reid.The previously advertised tribute to William Doppmann featuring Dr. Jerry Kracht, Craig Rine and Charles Roberts Stephens has been rescheduled for a later date.

Orchestra Series II: Tuesday November 19, 8 pm Lagerquist Hall

Violist, Betty Agent, will be featured in Hector Berlioz's picturesque, Harold in Italy. Also featured on the program will be excerpts from Handel's Messiah, a preview of music that will be heard in the annual Christmas concerts. Also featured will be The University Chorale and Choir of the West, directed by Nathan Frank and Brian Galante. Jeffrey Bell-Hanson, conductor.

PLU's popular Christmas Concert, Performances begin December 4 at Benaroya Hall in Seattle. Concerts in Lagerquist will be held on December 7, 8 and 13. The concert will be given in Arlene Schnitzer Hall in Portland on December 10. Contact the Music Department for more info, 253-535-7602.

Second Annual PLU Honor Orchestra for Strings Concert, Sunday, January 26, 4:30 pm, Lagerquist Hall

Guest conductor, William LaRue Jones, will lead some of the region's finest high school string players in a concert of literature for string orchestra, prepared during two days of intensive rehearsal at PLU. Also featured will be members of PLU's String Studies Faculty, including the Regency String Quartet. Visit for more information or to nominate your students.

Orchestra Series III: KammerMusikere Post-Tour Homecoming Concert, Thursday February 6, Lagerquist Hall

PLU's Chamber Orchestra will perform a program of selections from its late-January tour of California, including music by Astor Piazzolla.

Orchestra Series IV: Student Soloists,Tuesday March 18, 8 pm, Lagerquist Hall

Three PLU student musicians will be chosen by a panel of three guest judges in November.  Their prize will be an opportunity to perform with the University Symphony or other PLU ensembles in Lagerquist Hall. Winners and selections may be seen on the Student Soloists page of this site as they become available. Winners from last season are listed currently. In addition, a new student composition for orchestra will be premiered. Jeffrey Bell-Hanson, conductor.

Orchestra Series V: KammerMusikere, Tuesday April 8, 8 pm, Lagerquist Hall

KammerMusikere, the chamber orchestra of the PLUSO, will present a program of intimate orchestral music making. Darius Milhaud's colorful Le Boeuf sur le toit will be featured.

Orchestra Series VI: Tuesday May 13, 8 pm, Lagerquist Hall

American music of three centuries! Rodeo Suite by Aaron Copland, Glaciers by James Romig (PLUSO commission and premiere - 2009), and Amy Beach's incomparable "Gaelic" Symphony. Jeffrey Bell-Hanson, Conductor
