Banner Online

Banner services appear to be restored at this time following an emergency reboot of the core system. The exact cause is unknown and investigation continues. No additional impact is forseen, but until a root cause is identified we leave the status level "Elevated".

Banner Services Offline

Due to a problem with the primary database server Banner services including Internet Native Banner and BanWeb have been offline since 1pm. We are working to identify and correct the problem ASAP, however, the exact nature and cause is yet to be determined.

Update 2: Part of PLU web down

As of about 11:45am on the 26th, parts of the PLU web site have been down due to high usage of our news story web-server. Systems & Communications is working to resolve this problem as quickly as possible.

As of 2:20pm we are still working to resolve the problem.

As of 3:50pm we've stabilized the news server to a point where it is reliable but still slow. We're seeing about 15 times the normal traffic from this server to the news story regarding Student Tragedy. We are investigating moving that story to a different server to reduce load across the web-site. We appreciate your patience.

Internet Connection Upgraded!

As of Friday night the primary PLU Internet connection has been upgraded from a 45Mbps DS3 circuit to a 100Mbps Ethernet circuit. This effectively doubles (or better) the bandwidth available to all campus Internet users.

We are working to tune the new connection, but even while this is happening most users should see a substantial improvement in performance.

Update/Resolution: Internet and Telephone Service Outage

At 09:40am PLU's Internet & Telephone services were reconnected. All services appear to be back to normal. As repairs for other customers are completed there may be some future "bounce" that may affect PLU, but any disruption is likely to be extremely brief.

If additional information becomes available regarding the repairs or future impacting events we will post to this status page.

Update 1: Internet and Telephone Service Outage

We have had word from Integra Telecommunications--PLU's Internet and Telephone service provider--that in order to repair the break in their communications fiber, Highway 167 will need to be shut down. Thus, it is likely that it will be at least several hours until service is restored. More will be posted here as we receive information.

Internet and Incoming/Outgoing Phone Service are Down

A communications fiber belonging to our Internet and telephone service provider was cut about 3:45am today. Thus, all Internet and telephone services in and out of campus are down. Updates will be posted here as we have them. Thanks for your patience.

Network Connectivity Disruption

Due to a server process failure we experienced a brief period of network connectivity issues lasting roughly 20 minutes starting at 2:45pm today. The process was restored, but during the downtime some users may have experienced connection difficulties resulting in dropped sessions. Access should have been restored automatically with no required user intervention, but some services may require re-logins and in rare cases a desktop computer reboot may be necessary.

Anyone experiencing further issues should contact the Help Desk at x7525.

MySQL Error Messages -- Problem Fixed

As you attempted to access PLU web-based resources in the last half-hour, you may have received error messages warning about a problem with MySQL. This is the database behind many of our services. The problem has been fixed and you should no longer see the error messages.

Hong Network Problem / Resolved

Due to a power problem in the building, the network in Hong was disrupted for a short period of time this afternoon. Connectivity appears to be restored and we will continue to monitor the situation. We will work with Facilities Management to avoid this problem in the future.

Library Network Resolution

After remote and on-site troubleshooting, the problem was found to be the fiber connection from the basement (our core network) to the network switch on the first floor. We replaced the broken fiber at about 7:30pm and network services were available shortly after.

Library Network Problem

Since 10:48am Sunday (2/10) morning the main Mortvedt Library building network has been offline. We have been troubleshooting for much of that time, but thus far have been unable to identify the root problem. Technicians are being contacted to attempt on-site troubleshooting, but until they arrive and isolate the problem there is no estimated time to repair.

Intermittent Network Problems This Morning

You may have experienced problems when trying to connect to resources on the PLU network this morning. We have isolated the problem to the second floor, west wing of the Hague Admin building and are attempting to resolve the issue. In the meantime, network connectivity to that part of the Admin building will be down. Network connectivity on the rest of the network should be normal at this time. Thanks for your patience.

Internet Connection Issues

Starting approximately 5 minutes ago PLU's Internet connection started experiencing some sort of intermittent disruption. We are monitoring the situation and will be in contact with our ISP if the issue persists.

E-mail Problem Resolved

The problem with PLU's e-mail system was resolved about 10:30am. A system database file having grown beyond a critical threshold was most likely responsible for the problem. Our e-mail software vendor has provided us with a fix for this.

Chemistry Server Access - Resolved

DNS resolution problems relating to the Chemistry servers appears to be resolved and stable as of Monday morning. No further problems are anticipated relating to this issue.

www.chem.plu.edu Access Problems

For the last of couple of days there have been a few reports of problems connecting to some chemistry servers (primarily the web server). We are working in concert with Chemistry & NSCI systems administrators to help resolve this issue. In the meantime, this link http://208.186.64.58/ should provide access to the web server.

As of 6:45pm we received confirmation from our telephone carrier that the problem with some of their equipment has been resolved and not additional impact is anticipated at this time.

Telephone Calling into PLU - Update

As of approximately 6:25pm it appears the phone circuits have been restored. We have not received confirmation from our phone carrier that the repairs are permanent. However, testing thus far has indicated all known problems have been resolved. We will update again when final confirmation is received from the phone company.

Inbound Calling to Campus Unavailable

Due to a problem being experienced by our telephone service provider, incoming calls to campus are being blocked. Anyone trying to call PLU from off-campus will get a busy signal. More will be posted as it is known.

Sakai Problems on Saturday

The server running Sakai was unavailable due to a configuration problem Saturday morning and early afternoon. The problem was resolved and the system available again by about 4:30pm.

Internet connection problem - Resolved

At approximately 6:40pm on Wednesday 8/29/2007 our Internet connection was restored and appears stable. No additional impact is expected from this outage.

Internet Connection Problems

At 4:20pm today we began experiencing a problem with our Internet connection to the PLU campus. After contacting our ISP (Internet Service Provider) we discovered this problem is related to a router failure in their data center and is affecting a number of customers in the Seattle/Tacoma area. At the moment no specific time to repair is available, but they anticipate a rapid recovery. And update will be provided here when complete recovery & stability is achieved or more information becomes available.
