Granada - Spain
PLU, along with other schools in the ILACA consortium, sponsors a fall and/or spring semester program in Granada each year. This provides an excellent setting for a semester designed for advanced study in Spanish language and culture. A minimum of four semesters of Spanish language study is required for participation. Students live with Spanish families, and take special classes at the Centro de Lenguas Modernas at the University of Granada.
Hedmark University College - Norway
This program provides students with the opportunity to study and participate in Norway's democratic model and its successful implementation globally with respect to aid for developing countries and conflict resolution. Courses are taught in English. Hedmark application form. (fall semester)
London - England
Students spend a semester studying in London, England either fall or spring semester. The London program provides students with a study experience in one of the most exciting cities of the world. Courses taught both by Northwest professors and by British professors make extensive use of museums, cultural activities, and the sites of London. Students live with British families and commute by local transportation to classes. Several excursions take students outside London for a look at other parts of England.
Oaxaca - Mexico
Designed for advanced Spanish language students with an interest in Latin American Studies, PLU's newest semester program explores the intersection of development, culture, and social change through the lens of the dynamic and evolving context of contemporary Mexico. Located in the southwestern Mexican state of Oaxaca, the program explores the rich diversity of contemporary Mexican culture and strives to build understanding of one of the U.S.’s closest yet least understood neighbors. Trinidad & Tobago
Spring semester (January through mid-May) in Trinidad and Tobago provides students a unique opportunity to explore the islands and learn about the varied heritage of this multicultural society. During the month of January a PLU faculty member accompanies the group to Trinidad and teaches a course. From February through mid-May students take the core course, "Caribbean Culture and Society" and choose two additional courses from the regular course offerings at the University of the West Indies. Sichuan University - China
Students may spend a semester or year at Sichuan University (SU) in Chengdu, China. At SU, in addition to classes in Mandarin and Chinese culture, students take assorted courses that are taught in English. Often a PLU professor will accompany the group and teach one of the courses. Extensive study tours are included. Fluency in Mandarin is not required. Sichuan application form (fall semester)
University of Dar Es Salaam - Tanzania
In a consortium effort with other colleges and universities of the Lutheran Church, PLU offers a five month program at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. Students study Swahili language and select three or four courses from the wide offering of courses at the University of Dar es Salaam. All university courses are taught in English. ( fall semester)
