Archaeology: The Field Experience at Mount Rainier
Course Description:
This summer the Pacific Lutheran University's Department of Anthropology will offer three weeks of archaeological field school in scenic Grand Park on Mount Rainier. This experience will allow students to learn about archaeology by doing archaeology! Accordingly, students will be conducting field surface survey, recording, and test excavation of archaeological sites in and around Grand Park. Students will learn how to map sites with Geographic Positioning System (GPS) technology and record information on flaked stone tools and other artifacts. Listed below, the field season will be divided into three one-week sessions that will involve camping near Grand Park. A $50 equipment and transportation fee, due with your acceptance letter, will cover most of the fieldwork expenses except for food. Students need not attend all three sections; please feel free to mix and match as suits your summer schedule. Also, space permitting, anyone who can't afford tuition but would like to volunteer should contact the instructor and discuss such a possibility.
