Tanzania - Univesity of Dar es Salaam

Overview:

Spend fall semster exploring East Africa with the LCCT exchange program through the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. Students will learn about Africa and other subjects through university courses and will explore day-to-day Africa through interaction with university students, local children, and possible visits to a Maasai village and farms in the rural areas. This is your chance to experience a developing country and its educational system first hand. Each day will contain opportunities to learn about the culture in Tanzania. You will be challenged to modify your lifestyle as you experience a place that is worlds different than the United States and deal with situations you've never before faced.

The Lutheran College Consortium to Tanzania (LCCT) is a consortium of four ELCA colleges and universities and the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. This educational exchange offers a unique opportunity for United States students to study for almost five months in a rich cultural environment. It also provides special academic programs for Tanzania scholars who come to the Lutheran colleges for study. Participating colleges: Concordia, Luther, Pacific Lutheran, St. Olaf.

Pre-requirements:

Junior or senior standing is necessary. Students must have a minimum 2.7 or higher GPA (3.0 cumulative GPA preferred.) Must be a student in good standing.

Dates:

Approximately July 20 to mid December (five months).

Cost:

PLU's fall comprehensive fee covers orientation costs in Arusha, all university expenses in Dar es Salaam (including housing and meals), and study abroad insurance. Additional expenses are estimated at $3,000 - $3,700, including international airfare (approximately $2,200; domestic airfare may be additional), necessary inoculations, independent travel, gifts, and personal expenses.
