Social, Educational, and Health Services in Tobago
Course Description:
Come to Tobago to learn about its fascinating island culture. We will explore the strengths and needs of this multi-cultural community and see the effects of history and colonialism as they relate to the development of community problems and concerns. We will engage in service learning in a variety of settings.
Most of our time will be on the Caribbean Island of Tobago in the town of Scarborough. Here students will participate in service learning activities in educational, social service, community, and health care settings. They will interact with service providers and community residents. Through readings and reflections on their own experiences, as well as hearing from guest speakers and visiting social, health, and educational settings, they will develop an understanding of the meaning of service in another culture as well as a better understanding of their own ethic of meaningful service.
Our last days will be spent debriefing on our experiences and exploring the partner island of Trinidad.
