Attendance: Students are expected to attend all classes, tours, and seminars held prior to, during, and after the course.
Pre-departure exam: One test covering the material in the economics toolkit chapters will be given on the airplane, Monday, January 7th.
Daily quizzes: Each day, students are required to know where they are going, which sites they will visit, and have a rough idea of the sites' economic significance. These brief 5-question multiple choice quizzes, administered during breakfast, will cover the day's itinerary as well as material from articles discussed and sites visited within the past 24 hours.
Service learning project: Students will spend two hours assisting a local expert with the restoration of the centuries old dry terrace walls in Cinque Terre National Park.
Article presentations: Each 2-person student team will present nine articles from the online collection relating to a site visit scheduled for that day (10-15 minutes on the evening before, morning of, or evening of the site visit).
Integrative digital essay presentation: Student teams will complete an integrative digital essay analysis of economic and environmental issues and present it on January 31st or February 1st in class.
Attendance Policy
You must attend all course
lectures, on-site visits, and activities to pass this course. If
you are unable to attend due to an illness or other reasonable
conflict, you must give me advance notice.
