Class Session

We meet today to develop some of the background material for the course.  A primer on ancient and medieval Italy with emphasis on geography, history, and the environment.  We will also develop the basic economic themes for the course: markets in antiquity and common property resources.

We will wrap up the session with a final check of logistics for our departure tomorrow.

Students who have not taken ECON 101 or ECON 111, and all other students who feel the need for a refresher should review the following presentations:
