OBJECTIVE Demonstrate the ability to incorporate the dimensions of person, nursing, and environment to promote health in a variety of nursing situations.
Nursing Competencies I I have had limited experience on the promotion of health. My main experiences come from my clinical experiences at the Linden Grove Nursing Home for my Nursing Competencies I (Nursing 220) class. During this clinical I had the opportunity to interact with a variety of resident's. I was also able to have a therapeutic conversation and life review with one of the resident's there. My clinical experience has shown me that it is very necessary to know the dimensions of the person you are caring for. Without this, you cannot know how best to use therapeutic techniques and develop trust with a patient. If a patient does not trust you, you cannot help them. It has also shown me the importance of knowing the dimensions of nursing. In order to be the best possible nurse, you must know your scope of practice and be able to effectively communicate with a client in a helpful manner. Finally, my Nursing 220 clinical rotation has shown me that knowing the dimensions of a client's environment are extremely important to health promotion. For example, many of the residents at Linden Grove were at risk for falls. Knowing this, the staff took care to keep their rooms uncluttered and had assistive devices within easy reach of the client at all times. I expect my ability to incorporate these things will increase as I am exposed to more settings and situations throughout the program. I have already grown a lot since I started the program, as evidenced by my clinical paper. |
