Scholarships, Grants & Loans

Non-Need Awards for full-time undergraduate students

These awards are determined in whole or in part by your GPA and standardized test scores at the time of admission to PLU.

Regents' Scholarships
Eligibility: Awarded to freshmen in recognition of outstanding academic achievement, leadership and service. Students that meet the following
requirements are encouraged to apply: 3.8+ GPA, and 1250+ SAT or 28+ ACT scores. All scholarship and admission materials must be submitted by January 3rd to be considered.

Amount: Full tuition, renewable for three additional years of undergraduate study.


President's Scholarships
Eligibility: Same as Regents' Scholarships. All scholarship and admission materials must be submitted by January 3rd to be considered.
Amount: $11,000 year one
$11,500 year two
$12,000 year three
$12,500 year four


PLU Academic Scholarships

Eligibility: Awarded to freshmen and transfers who have demonstrated strong academic success.
Amount: Varies.

Comments or Conditions: No application necessary. Renewable for up to three years of undergraduate study.

National Merit Scholarships
Eligibility: National Merit finalist, as determined by results of the PSAT-NMSQT (preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying
Test) competition.

Amount: Winners of a PLU-sponsored National Merit Scholarship will receive scholarship and grant assistance (from all sources) that ranges
from one-half to full tuition per year and is renewable for up to three additional years of undergraduate study.

Comments or Conditions: Finalists must list PLU as their first choice with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Washington Scholar's Award
Eligibility: Washington State Scholars.

Amount: .A minimum of $3,500 per year for up to four years, subject to state legislative adjustment.

Comments or Conditions: Renewable for three years if a 3.30 GPA is maintained. The Washington Scholar's Program honors three graduating high school seniors from each legislative district every year.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships
Eligibility: Transfer students with a 3.60+ GPA and 45+ semester hours or 60+ quarter hours of college courses, admitted by March 1 with proof of PTK membership.

Amount: $3,000 per year for up to two years.

Comments or Conditions: Not based on financial need, application required, three awards are available, 3.30 GPA for renewal.


Artistic Achievement Awards
Eligibility: Exceptional ability in the fields of art, dance, theatre, forensics, and music.

Amount: Varies.

Comments or Conditions: Awarded by faculty recommendation. Renewable on the basis of faculty recommendation and participation.

Alumni Dependent Grant
Eligibility: Students whose parent(s) attended PLU (PLC) for at least one year.

Amount: $500 per year for up to four years of undergraduate study.

Comments or Conditions: No application required, renewed annually.

Clergy Dependent Grant
Eligibility: Dependent children of ordained ministers who are actively serving a Christian congregation full time.

Amount: $1,000 per year for four years.

Comments or Conditions: No application required, renewed annually.

PLU Matching Scholarships (PLUMS)
Eligibility: Students receiving scholarships of $100 or more from any Christian church congregation.

 

Amount: $100-$1,000 per year.

Comments or Conditions: Awarded by Office of Financial Aid. Matches a church scholarship, dollar for dollar, up to $1,000 (minimum of $100) per year. To receive matching funds, a PLUMS application form is required and must be received by August 15 each year. In addition, PLU must receive all PLUMS payments by October 1 each year.

Rieke Leadership Award
Eligibility: Students with 3.00+ GPA and demonstrated leadership or active involvement in a multi-ethnic context.

Amount: Up to $2,000 per year.

Comments or Conditions: Requires application; deadline March 1. Applications available through the Office of Admissions. Requires
reapplication to be renewed each year.

International Grants
Eligibility: International students.

Amount: $2,100 per year for up to four years.

Comments or Conditions: Must be full-time. Awarded automatically and renewed annually to students who maintain good academic standing.


The Americas Grant

Eligibility: Citizens of countries in North, Central or South America (excluding United States).

Amount: Dollar equivalent of double occupancy PLU residence hall room and selected meal plan.


Comments or Conditions:
Must be full-time. Must live in a PLU residence hall room or South Hall. Replaces international student grant.


Nordic Grant

Eligibility: Nordic students (Danish, Finnish, Icelandic, Norwegian, Swedish) living on campus.

Amount: Dollar equivalent of double occupancy PLU residence hall room and meal plan.


Comments or Conditions:
Must be full-time. Must live in a PLU residence hall or South Hall. Replaces international student grant.


Tuition Remission
Eligibility/Amount: Employees of the university are eligible for up to 90 percent tuition remission and their dependents are eligible for up to 75
percent, a university gift resource. If you receive tuition remission, you may be awarded additional merit and need-based institutional gifts up to the cost of tuition. Receipt of tuition remission may serve to adjust or eliminate other institutional aid previously awarded.

Army ROTC Scholarships
Eligibility: Full-time undergraduates.

Amount: Up to full tuition, room/meals.

Need-Based Awards for full-time undergraduate students

Q Club Scholarships
Eligibility: Awarded to full-time students. Based on academic achievement and financial need. Q Club is a group of more than 2,000 friends and
alumni committed to making PLU accessible to deserving students.


Amount:
Varies, depends on need.

Comments or Conditions: No application required.

University Grants
Eligibility: Full-time students.

Amount: Varies, depends on need.

Comments or Conditions: No application required. Based on financial need.

Dollars for Scholars
Eligibility: Students receiving scholarships from any Dollars for Scholars chapter.

Amount: Varies. Up to $1,000 per student.

Comments or Conditions: The university matches Dollars for Scholars chapter awards, dollar for dollar, up to $1,000 per student, based on financial need. Dollars for Scholars is a program of the Citizens' Scholarship Foundation of America.

Pell Grant
Eligibility: Students taking at least one credit.

Amount: $400-$4,000 yearly.

Comments or Conditions: Based on financial need.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
Eligibility: At least half-time students.

Amount: At least $100, varies with need.

Comments or Conditions: Based on financial need, priority given to students with Pell Grant eligibility.

Washington State Need Grant (WSNG)
Eligibility: At least half-time students.

Amount: Subject to state funding.

Comments or Conditions: Based on financial need.

Trio
Eligibility: A state need grant program available to students who have completed any TRIO program. Programs include: Upward Bound, Talent Search, SMART and GEAR UP.

Amount: Subject to state funding.

Comments or Conditions: TRIO award replaces Washington State Need Grant eligibility.

Washington State Educational Opportunity Grant (EOG)
Eligibility: Transfer students with an associate's degree or junior standing, and enrolled in at least six semester hours.


Amount:
$2,500 per year (subject to state funding).

Comments or Conditions Students cannot have previously attended PLU. Must be resident of Washington state.

Need-Based Loans

Federal Perkins Loan
Eligibility: Undergraduate students attending at least half-time (six credit hours) or graduate students attending at least half-time (four credit
hours).

Amount: Up to $4,000 for each year of undergraduate study and up to $6,000 for each year of graduate or professional study.

Repayment: A fixed interest rate of 5 percent. Principal and interest payments begin 12 months after the student graduates, withdraws or drops to less than half-time attendance. Deferrals are available for student status, economic hardship and select volunteer services.


Federal Nursing Loan
Eligibility: Student enrolled at least half-time (six credit hours) in School of Nursing (except pre-nursing). Preference given to LPN students.

Amount: Up to $4,000

Repayment: A fixed interest rate of 5 percent. Principal and interest payments begin 12 months after the student graduates, withdraws or drops to less than half-time attendance.

Subsidized Federal Stafford Loan
Eligibility: At least half-time (six credit hours) undergraduate or (four credit hours) graduate students.

Amount: Up to $2,625 per year for freshmen, $3,500 for sophomores, $5,500 for juniors and seniors, and $8,500 for graduate students.

Repayment: A variable interest rate that changes annually and can never exceed 8.25 percent. Monthly principal and interest payments begin six months after the student graduates, withdraws or drops to less than half-time attendance.


Non-Need Loans

Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan
Eligibility: Undergraduate students attending at least half-time (six credit hours) or graduate students attending at least half-time (four credit hours) who do not qualify for all or part of the maximum Subsidized Federal Stafford Loan.

Amount: Up to $2,625 per year for freshmen, $3,500 for sophomores, $5,500 for juniors and seniors, and $10,000 for graduate students.

Repayment: A variable interest rate that changes annually but can never exceed 8.25 percent. Monthly principal payments begin six months after the student graduates, withdraws or drops to less than half-time attendance. Unsubsidized means students are responsible for the accruing interest on the loan, which begins the day the loan is disbursed; interest payments may be deferred until student enters
repayment.


Additional Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan
Eligibility: Independent student or dependent student whose parents are
denied a PLUS loan.

Amount:
Up to $4,000 per year for freshmen and sophomores and $5,000
for juniors and seniors.


Federal PLUS Loan

Eligibility: Parents of dependent student.

Amount: Parents may borrow up to the full cost of their student's college education minus the amount of any financial aid the student is receiving.

Repayment: A variable interest rate which changes annually and can never exceed 9 percent.Monthly principal and interest payments begin within 60 days after the final disbursement of funds. (Interest begins accruing from the date the funds are first disbursed.)

Comments or Conditions: A Parent Plus Loan Request form is required by Pacific Lutheran University and the federal government before this loan can be initiated. Financial need is not a requirement. Either parent may borrow this loan for the student. The parent is responsible for selecting a lender from the Preferred List of Lenders.

Alternative Loans
Eligibility: All Students

Amount: Varies

Comments or Conditions: Various alternative loans are provided for all students, including those not qualified for Title IV aid.


Employment

Eligibility: At least half-time enrollment.

Amount: Varies.

State Work Study
