Future

There are three aspects to my Future I believe these would be, Where I am, Where I am going, and where I want to be.

Where I am: At the moment I am in my first semester of college. I am still unsure of how I will get to my goals and really who I am. I know I want to be a nurse and am on the path to discovering how to become that. I feel like my biggest concerns right now are balancing my classes and family/friends. Since I am not established in this place, I only have ideas for what I could be. I feel I don't really know the complete me but more of which I want to be.

Where am I going: I decided that I am going to major in nursing. This is the path I am going to take to get to where I want to be. I am going to apply to nursing schools and attend the most suitable one I get into. I want to finish this program with a bachelor in science in nursing within four years.

Where I want to be: I want to be a RN and work in the maternity ward preferable. I believe this will satisfy some of my needs in life. Such as helping others and feeling useful in my career. I believe I will really enjoy the art of nursing and it will lead me to paths in life I would not find otherwise.

Reflection Paper
I came into PLU wondering if a career in business was an option for me. Quickly I realized I am not remotely interested in pursuing business. I now know that I am seeking a career in nursing. Many of the essays we have reflected on in this course have addressed information that applies to the career I’m seeking.
Making such a big decision such as, deciding what career I will have has brought on reflection. I asked myself a big question such as Drucker voices, “They will have to place themselves where they can make the greatest contribution”(Drucker, 217). Where was I going to make the greatest contribution? People can contribute in many ways, it does not have be in the medical field. Yet, since I was little I have had a fascination with the study of the human body. I am seeking a career in nursing because this is where I will make my greatest contribution. When people go to the hospital or the doctors they do not remember the doctor so much as the nurse. The nurse is who nurtures the children and shows them mother like love. This is why I am placing myself in the career of nursing.
Being a RN opens vast opportunities. I could work in a hospital, private practice, or someone’s home. There are so many options to what I can do with my education. I believe I will work in the hospital in the maternity ward. Here I can use my education along with interests. “The educated person needs to be able to bring his or her knowledge to bear on the present, not to mention to have a role in molding the future” (Drucker, 289). In the maternity ward I will be able to use my knowledge and have a role on the future. I will mold the future in two senses. The idea that I am responsible for this new life (the future). I am the first person to nurture them and take care of them. I will have a chance to make an impact on them. If I could help the life of just one new born child I will see my career as the greatest contribution. I also have a role on the future in the sense that I of am a new generation of nurses.  RN’s are in such great demand, and are of a continuously growing career. I will be working to open doors for the future generation of nurses. Any progress I make in the field of Nursing will be passed on and better help those of the future. In this way among others I will contribute to society.
“Everyone is an organ of society and exists for the sake of society” (Drucker, 16). Just as Drucker stated in one of his essays everyone exists for society. I will contribute to society by being a medical source for it. My career will be devoted to help people medically. The field of nursing is that of someone who is educated to medically assist others. My knowledge will help others in their health and lives. Overall nurses are in demand by choosing this career I will be helping to meet the demand of society.
Through deep reflection and education I now know I will be seeking a career in the field of nursing. I will be giving others the greatest contribution I can and will find comfort in that. I will also be seeking the role of working with newborns to assure their safety in their trip home from the hospital and beyond. I will be molding the role of nurses for the future and helping society. For all of these reasons I have decided to give my life to the career of nursing.
