Profile

fball 22005   205x300   5.8KMy name is Ryan Alwert and I am a Senior at Pacific Lutheran University. I was born in Tacoma, Washington and raised in Puyallup, Washington. I was raised by my parents Lloyd and Cindy Alwert who are teachers in the Bethel School District. I have one brother named Garrett who recently graduated from Washington State University where he was a four year letter winner in baseball. He had a short stint playing for the Cleveland Indians farm team, but was released due to medical problems. I attended Bethel High School in Spanaway and played football, basketball, and baseball while there. After graduation I came to Pacific Lutheran University and intended to major in Business. After my freshmen year I switched majors to Political Science but after two semesters finally decided that my passion was physical education. I plan to graduate in in the spring of 2008 and hope to attain a job in the surrounding area. To learn more about me check out my website at RyanAlwert.com.

Philosophy Statement

Every child who enters a Physical Education classroom has the right to have fun, learn and improve as an athlete. I believe that all students have the ability to enjoy physical activity and therefore have a right participate and improve their skills in various physical activities. Maximum participation for all students, and stressing healthy lifestyle choices are the cornerstones of my philosophy. Maximizing participation gives all students an opportunity to improve and enjoy an activity because they are actually improving and can compete at a high level. Maximum participation allows students to build and improve skills as well as get a full understanding of how to play a game. If a student enjoys doing an activity they are more likely to compete in that activity later in life and be able to be fit for their life. Stressing how fitness can play a role in a student’s life and telling them the many benefits that can be seen from exercising regularly goes hand in hand with maximum participation. I want to be able to educate students with the knowledge they need to live a healthy lifestyle and equip them with the skills that they need to be able to engage in various activities that are fun and allow them to improve their cardiovascular fitness.
