| Nurses engage others in many contexts and need to be aware of the many factors which influence the reasons people seek their help and the form that help takes. Nursing 220 - Nursing CompetenciesIn this class I solidified a foundation for providing competent care with a focus on the older adult population. Through the lab and clinical experiences I learned and then put into practice the necessary elements for therapeutic communication and technical skills. Among many other components, I learned to recognize the physical, psychological, social and developmental factors which contribute to the well-being of older adults. A particularly useful concept was "knowing, being with and doing for."
