Nursing 220 - Nursing Competencies

In this class I solidified a foundation for providing competent care with a focus on the older adult population. Through the lab and clinical experiences I learned and then put into practice the necessary elements for therapeutic communication and technical skills.  Among many other components, I learned to recognize the physical, psychological, social and developmental factors which contribute to the well-being of older adults.  A particularly useful concept was "knowing, being with and doing for." 

Nursing 270 - Health Assessment & Health Promotion

In the health promotion portion of this class I learned how to apply the various nursing models for prevention and education regarding the promotion of healthy lifestyles. I also developed a deeper understanding of the various assessment tools and areas needing education in order to prevent and detect the various threats to the client's and the community's health.
