My first official work experience was with a international but locally owned company named Grundens and Stormy Seas. This particular company was in the business of making heavy duty rain gear meant for fishermen in Alaska, I worked as a warehouse manager for about a year and a half starting my junior year. As a warehouse manager I was used to doing manual labor as well as inventory and management of stock, this was a great learning experience for me because it was slightly smaller scale and gave me time to gain an on site training.
During the spring and summer of my senior year in high school I had created my own business of selling firewood, hiring two friends to work with me we were able to sell firewood to a large portion of the north end of Kitsap County. Although this may seem like a minuscule effort at business to some I believe having to handle the slightest of logistics between our product and the customers needs were a great building experience for me.
For this coming summer of 2009 I have already been hired as an official Skyhawks coach for the Kitsap area, teaching youths about many different sports such as Football, Baseball, Soccer, and more. I am looking forward to becoming a coach and teaching some of the things i love to do, also this will give me the chance to work with kids and gain an understanding of what it takes to teach.
Finally I have plans to work as an apprentice electrician this summer under my fathers business, this should be a valuable work experience as I am sure it will not be easy in the slightest. After I have completed these jobs I believe it will be easier for me to start concentrating on more specific career goals and interning at companies to try and get a feel for how multiple businesses are run.
