English Language and Composition (Experienced Teachers)

English Language and Composition
for Experienced Teachers

July 19-23, 2010
Monday-Thursday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon

The purpose of this course, for experienced teachers of AP* English Language and Composition, is to provide teachers with ideas, strategies, and materials to enhance their instruction. The workshop will focus on nonfiction prose, as well as visual texts, and will offer copious strategies for helping students become persuasive writers who are skilled in close reading, in analyzing rhetorical strategies, in using argumentative skills, as well as writing synthesis essays. In addition to curriculum development and shared best practices, participants will practice holistic grading and rubric design using previous AP* exams as well as the 2009 exam. All activities will enable experienced teachers to revise, enhance or develop their own syllabi.

**Participants are welcome to bring a sample of their favorite lessons to share with other participants or, if possible, a copy of a current syllabus.
