Nursing DEFINITION:

A holistic steth 1approach to caring for an individual in all aspects, mind, body, and soul. It encompasses multiple subsystems, each varying from person to person. It is not task oriented but rather patient-care oriented. Therapeutic use of self and communication is key to the entire process outcome.

Professional Statement

My goals from sophomore year to present day, which are below, have not changed drastically. I initially set my sights on  pediatrics. Instead, I found my passion for emergency care and administration and/or managerial roles. Below are my current 1-year and 5-year goals.

1-Year Goals
:

The next big hurdle after graduation is to pass my NCLEX exam, which is my first goal in my 1-year plan. I have taken the necessary steps; reading through a NCLEX prep book over the last few months and have signed up for the Kaplan review classes in June. My next goals are based off the completion of this first goal. The second goal is to obtain an RN position. I would prefer to be in the Emergency Department. However, I am keeping my mind open. My third goal, once I have begun working, is to progress from the novice nurse into the advanced beginning nurse.
My last and final goal for the next year is to experience life and life as a nurse. I am used to being a student but will be taking on a new role, the role of the RN. I initially wanted to take a complete year off of school but have decided to pursue my goal for continuing education. I want to work on my Masters while working a full-time job at a hospital, begin paying off my student loans, live in a nice apartment and/or condo that I can decorate, and I want to get a miniature french bulldog.

5-Year Goals
:

Five years seems like a long time but I know, as I reflect on the last five years, that time literally flies by. My first goal over the next five years is to have  completed my Masters. I do not know currently if I want to specialize but I do know that my top career goal is to be in an upper management/leadership position. My second goal is to have progressed from the advanced beginner nurse into the competent nurse and starting to become a proficient nurse.
My next goal is that I will be involved in professional organizations and service projects. In my undergraduates at Pacific Lutheran University, I have been actively involved in service projects and organizations. I believe outside work experience and involvement in professional organization is a huge piece of being a professional. Outside of my professional goals, I plan on settling down in the next five years. I would like to be married and start planning for a family towards the end of the next five years.
In all actuality and honesty, I am excited for what the next five years hold. Above I have mentioned my goals but I am just ready to see where the next path takes me and enjoy the adventure along the way.
