ASSUMING RESPONSIBILITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY» OBJECTIVE:Assume responsibility and accountability for professional practice. What
did I learn? I have learned the true meaning of
responsibility and accountability over the last five years. My experience at Pacific Lutheran University
has taught me that within the nursing field and as a professional the above
objective is a necessity. I have learned how to be accountable for my actions,
along with learning to take on responsibilities. I have also learned to help
others learn these same skills and apply them. How
did I learn it? I have shown my abilities of
accountability through completion of my annual health care requirements,
my attendance in class, annual adviser appointments,
and my assignments. I have learned these skills in the
clinical setting as well as in the classroom. In my clinical
experiences I have
learned the importance of being responsible for your actions, admitting
mistakes when they are made. My experiences in leadership have allowed
me to
improve these skills because it affects other people in the group. For
example,
I have had to commit to attending Delta meetings on the first and third
Wednesday of every month due to my role as vice president. I have
learned that you need to respond to emails and
phone calls within a reasonable time limit. I have learned from group
assignments the importance of pulling one’s own weight; your actions
affect
others in the group. I have also learned that a team fails or succeeds
as a group, no single person is to blame. These experiences have helped
me learn the importance of being
responsible and accountable for my actions, both professionally and
personally. How will I continue
to use it in the future? Nursing as a profession requires continuous responsibility and accountability at all levels. I plan on keeping my nursing license and requirements up-to-date. I will be accountable for my actions and admit my errors. I plan on taking more responsibilities within the nursing field as the opportunities come my way. I also want to hold other accountable for their actions and help others learn the meaning of accountability and responsibility. |
