Evidence-Based CareProvide evidence-based clinically competent care ![]() Learning how to offer competent care There have been multiple evaluations of my progress between my Sophomore I and Sophomore II semesters. In NURS 220, a weekly lab session taught me the basic skills of caring for a patient, such as checking vital signs, performing bed baths, changing bed linens, and even proper bedside manner. The course was followed a "Putting it all Together Day", where the complete list of new skills were observed and evaluated. The clinical setting environment from this course also offered hands-on participation of basic skills, which was followed by a skills checklist evaluated by my clinical instructor to keep record of which skills I demonstrated with competence. NURS 270 offered a similar environment of lab sessions, but with more emphasis on physical assessment and documenting findings. This course will be followed by a Health Assessment evaluation from the instructor to gauge my level of competence. Personal Reflections: These labs sessions and clinical settings have been extremely beneficial in teaching me the fundamentals of being a nurse. I have been able to learn in a non-threatening and somewhat self-pased environment, which I thrive in the most. I learn well from hands-on instruction, and it is useful to be able to apply what I have learned from lectures and personal study. |
