Application of the Nursing Process

Health Promotion Project

In a recent assignment from NURS 270, I was given the task of preparing a comprehensive work up of the eight developmental age groups, and key risks for each age group.  Additionally, I was to apply the nursing process for three various age groups, outlining health promotion aspects I would use as a nurse if I were treating the patient.  The product I developed by clicking the link below.

Personal Reflections: This proved to be a challenging project.  It was time consuming and was the first time I had ever actually applied the entire nursing process to one specific group or person. However, it was one of my favorite assignments thus far because it forced me to put the nursing process into perspective and apply it.

Life Review

In NURS 220, during one of my days at my clinical site, I had the opportunity to interview a resident about his life.  It gave me the opportunity to use critical thinking skills when addressing the developmental lifespan, as well a stage for holistic health promotion.  A checklist I referenced while writing a paper about the interview, as well as the actual life review paper can be viewed by selecting the following links.

Personal Reflections: I remember interviewing the elderly resident very well, and I also remember the conversation being somewhat sad.  The resident seemed to have sorrow when he was answering some of my questions, and I felt a twinge of sympathy for him.  I know I wear my heart on my sleeve, and I hold a special place in my heart for the elderly, so I know one thing I will really have to work on it not letting my emotions take over every time I encounter a patient who I for some reason feel sorry for.
