Professional Practice

Professional Practice

Assume responsibility and accountability for professional practice

linden grove

uh I am proud and excited to join the long list of professional nurses, practicing their craft and making a difference to so many.  The legacy of nurses before me has set the standard high, and I have every intention of meeting if not exceeding that standard.

Clinical Experience

NURS 220 gave me the opportunity to learn in a clinical setting, at a nursing home called Linden Grove. Not only did I have the opportunity to develop the framework for becoming a professional in practice, but I was also able to observe the professional practices of other members of the health care team. The link below will take you to the paper I wrote after the experience.

Clinical Paper

Personal Reflections: This paper was written after my first experience participating as a professional nurse.  I used the experience as a starting point, and look forward to more experiences where my professionalism and skills in the practice of nursing will improve and develop.

Future objectives and additions: next semester I will be able to participate in two more clinical settings. I will be taking NURS 340 - Adult Health, and NURS 350 - Mental Health, where I can continue to work on the objective of Professional Practice.

Heart Failure Pilot Project Opportunity

This semester launched a fascinating opportunity, as well as the first of its kind.  As part of NURS 270, all students were assigned a patient who has been diagnosed with Heart Failure, to act as their advocate between the patient and Multicare.  This relationship will last until I reach my Senior I semester, which is very exciting.  I have been able to review my patient's medical history and diagnosis records, visit her at home to assess and promote her health, and maintain a professional relationship with follow-up phone calls each week.  To say the least, the experience has been amazing.

Heart Failure Write-up (will be posted upon completion)

Personal Reflections: Initially, this pilot project made me feel overwhelmed and unsure.  I did not know if I had the skills to care for a patient with a life-threatening disease, and I did not want to make any mistakes or jeopardize her health or well being in any way.  So far the experience has been positive.  I have loved applying the skills I already have while learning new skills.  I have truly felt like a professional nurse, which makes me extremely happy and proud.  My goals for the future with this project is to keep myself updated and informed on my client's health and needs.  I intend on complying with all of Multicare's standards, as well as setting some of my own.  I hope to use this opportunity to grow as a person as well a learning student and future professional nurse.
