Football: Six Lutes Named to Academic All-District Team

Yesterday the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Football Team was announced with six PLU athletes making the squad. The six athletes PLU had on the 26-man team were more than any other institution.

Offensive linemen Kelly Totten, a senior from Arcadia, Calif., made the list with a 3.55 GPA. Totten is majoring in business administration and marketing and has been a member of the Deans List on numerous occasions. Fellow senior Carl Field and junior Brady Freeman, both offensive linemen, also made the team. Field is majoring in business administration and holds a 3.76 GPA. Freeman is majoring in biology with a minor in chemistry and currently has a GPA of 3.75.

Senior Jeff Ebel, from Loveland, Colo., holds a 3.71 GPA and is a chemistry major. A pair of defensive lineman round out the list. Seniors Andy Holden and Robert Thomsen, a mathematic major and an economics major, both made the team. Holden has a GPA of 3.82 while Thomsen has a 3.42 GPA.

To be eligible, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for their career. The student-athlete must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their current institution.
