Football: Six Lutes Named to Academic All-District
Team
Yesterday the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Football
Team was announced with six PLU athletes making the squad. The six
athletes PLU had on the 26-man team were more than any other institution.
Offensive linemen Kelly Totten, a senior from Arcadia, Calif.,
made the list with a 3.55 GPA. Totten is majoring in business administration
and marketing and has been a member of the Deans List on numerous
occasions. Fellow senior Carl Field and junior Brady Freeman, both
offensive linemen, also made the team. Field is majoring in business
administration and holds a 3.76 GPA. Freeman is majoring in biology
with a minor in chemistry and currently has a GPA of 3.75.
Senior Jeff Ebel, from Loveland, Colo., holds a 3.71 GPA and is
a chemistry major. A pair of defensive lineman round out the list.
Seniors Andy Holden and Robert Thomsen, a mathematic major and an
economics major, both made the team. Holden has a GPA of 3.82 while
Thomsen has a 3.42 GPA.
To be eligible, student-athletes must be a starter or important
reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on
a 4.0 scale) for their career. The student-athlete must have reached
sophomore athletic and academic standing at their current institution.
