FOOTBALL: Eisentrout Chosen to Play in
2007 Aztec Bowl
The American Football Coaches Association announced the roster
for the Division III team that will travel to Chihuahua, Mexico,
to represent the United States in the 2007 Aztec Bowl. The November
27th announcement included PLU’s senior defensive end Andrew
Eisentrout. Eisentrout will join the national team
for the December 8th game, which will be played at Estadio Olimpico.
Initially listed as an alternate, Eisentrout was officially added
to the team after the original player injured his shoulder in a
game against Mount Union. Eisentrout becomes the fifth PLU player
to participate in the event, following quarterback Chad Johnson
in 2000, offensive lineman Trevor Roberts in 2001, wide receiver
Kyle Brown in 2002 and offensive lineman Kent Bailey in 2004. This
honor comes two weeks after Eisentrout was named co-Northwest Conference
Defensive Player of the year. Eisentrout led the conference with
11.5 sacks this season, and his 14.5 tackles-for-loss were second
only to teammate Robert Thomsen.
According to the AFCA release, the Aztec Bowl has been played 36
times since 1947. It is traditionally the season-ending game on
Mexico’s football schedule and has featured a US-Mexico match
up in the past nine games. This year’s game will begin at
4 p.m. PST on December 8th. It can be heard on a webcast accessible
at www.afca.com.
