Chase Reed has been a barrel
of energy and big-time plays since he joined the Lutes in 2003.
Reed has been a first-team Northwest Conference player each of
the last two seasons, once as a receiver and the other as a running
back. His versatility and ability to move make him a tough player
for opponents to stop.
What
were the major contributing factors in your decision to attend Pacific
Lutheran University?
One reason why I came to PLU was because it’s only
30 minutes away from my hometown, Orting. I wanted to be away from
home but not too far. Another reason I came here was because my
friend and high school football teammate, Sean McIlraith, was also
going to come to PLU and play football. I knew I would feel more
comfortable rooming with someone I’ve been friends with since
middle school.
How has your family helped to you get where
you are athletically?
My athletic genes came from my dad who played football and baseball
along with other sports in high school. Ever since I was little
my dad encouraged me to play as many sports as possible and to have
fun while competing. My brother is two years older than me so I
always got to play football and other sports with him and his friends,
which toughened me up since they were always bigger than I was.
My dad’s involvement and competing against my brother and
his friends helped me to be the athlete I am today.
What has been your favorite class at PLU?
My favorite class would have to be Sports Psychology of Physical
Activity. This class was not the easiest, but Dr. Hacker always
had topics that sparked my interests.
What
are your plans after college?
After college I would like to play football somewhere. If that doesn’t
work out for me then I want to be involved with sports anyway possible.
I would also like to be a receivers coach at a high school as well.
Has it been difficult to balance athletics
with academics?
No, I always strive to get my homework done ahead of time.
When your athletic career is all said and
done, what is it that you would want people to say about you?
I would like people to say that I always competed hard and that
I never gave up; that I was an exciting player who always made big
plays and that I wasn’t just a great athlete, but a great
friend as well.
Describe your hometown and what you miss
most about it.
Orting, my hometown, is a small city near Puyallup. The thing I
miss most about my hometown is the small city atmosphere. Living
in Tacoma there is a lot of traffic and crime whereas in Orting
there isn’t much of either.
What is your favorite place on campus?
My favorite spot on campus would have to be either the fitness center
or the UC. The fitness center allows me to workout or play basketball
with my buddies and the UC is always a great place since I love
food.
What is your favorite pre and post game
snack?
A bag of skittles and a can of pop. It gives me all
of my energy.
What is your favorite restaurant in Tacoma?
Wagon Wheel by far. They have great service, great food, and offer
twenty percent off to PLU students.
What song is playing on your ipod before
a game?
Kanye West - Stronger
It is actually my ringtone as well.
