Division I Portland State Ends PLU Win Streak

PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland State scored 39 points off of 28 Pacific Lutheran turnovers as the NCAA Division I Vikings defeated the Division III Lutes, 107-57, in a men's basketball game played Thursday night at the Stott Center.

The loss was the first of the year for the Lutes after four consecutive wins, while Portland State improves to 6-3 this season.

The Vikings dominated from the outset, building a 49-29 halftime lead and then outscoring the Lutes by 30 in the final half. The 50-point margin was one point short of the record for most lopsided loss by a Pacific Lutheran team. Kansas, one of the most successful NCAA Division I programs in college basketball history, defeated Pacific Lutheran, 112-61, in 1988.

Portland State enjoyed a 54-35 rebounding advantage and shot 51 percent from the field to just 30 percent for Pacific Lutheran.

Senior wing Josh Vanlandingham was the only PLU player to score in double figures, finishing with 11 points. He also led the visitors with four rebounds. Junior point guard Landon Heidenreich had six assists for the Lutes. In all, 15 PLU players saw action in the game and 12 of them contributed to the 57-point scoring total.

For Portland State, all 10 players scored, with none of the 10 playing less than 13 minutes or more than 24 minutes. Guard Dupree Lucas tallied 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists to lead the Vikings. Center Scott Morrison had 17 points and six rebounds, and Julius Thomas came off the bench to finish with a double-double - 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Pacific Lutheran returns to action Friday night when it travels to Kirkland to face Northwest University. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
