PORTLAND, Ore. - Concordia had five players score in double figures
to overcome a big 30-point night from Josh
Vanlandingham as the Cavaliers defeated Pacific Lutheran,
88-65, in a non-conference men's basketball game played in Cavalier
Gymnasium.
Vanlandingham, a senior wing from Snohomish, hit 12-of-25 field
goal attempts, including 3-of-9 from three-point range, and converted
all three of his free throws in scoring nearly half of the Lutes'
total points. Vanlandingham was one of the few Lutes who shot well
from the field as PLU finished the game with 34 percent accuracy
from the field, including 25 percent from beyond the three-point
arc.
In addition to leading PLU in scoring, Vanlandingham also paced
the Lutes with nine rebounds. Scott
McDaniels added eight rebounds and 10 points for PLU.
The Cavaliers jumped out to an 11-4 lead, but Vanlandingham scored
five straight points as the Lutes rallied to take a 12-11 advantage.
Matt Ochs converted a three-point play to put the Cavaliers back
in front, 14-12, which also began a 7-0 CU run that gave the Cavaliers
a 21-14 lead with 11:32 remaining.
Pacific Lutheran eventually closed the margin to three, 21-18,
on Vanlandingham's three-pointer with 9:28 left, but the Cavaliers
scored 12 unanswered points to regain control. Concordia led 45-34
at halftime and maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second
half.
Alex Hartman led the Cavaliers with 17 points, with Matt Ochs adding
13 and Ernie Rama 12.
The Lutes, now 4-4 overall, return to action at 7 p.m. Saturday
