Lutes Finish Colorado Sweep With 1-0 Victory

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. – Pacific Lutheran finished off a successful weekend in Colorado with a 1-0 non-conference men’s soccer victory Saturday afternoon over Buena Vista (Iowa). The Lutes also defeated Colorado College, 6-0, on Friday.

Derek MacLean, a freshman defender, scored the game’s only goal in the 43rd minute when he tallied off the rebound of his first shot following a PLU corner kick. MacLean’s initial effort was cleared off the line, but the ball came right back to him and he finished to notch his first goal of the season.

Defensively, the Lutes collected their second straight shutout, with sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Croft getting the “clean sheet.”

Pacific Lutheran owned a 25-9 shot advantage, forcing the Buena Vista goalkeeper to make 14 saves.

The Lutes, 2-1 this season, open Northwest Conference play next Saturday when they host the Pacific Boxers at 2:30 p.m.
