Third Straight Shutout as Lutes Stop Pacific,
3-0
Match Statistics
TACOMA – Baard Asker scored a pair of goals and Pacific Lutheran
recorded its third consecutive shutout as the Lutes defeated the
visiting Pacific Boxers, 3-0, in a Northwest Conference men’s
soccer match played Saturday at the PLU field.
With the win, the Lutes improve to 3-1 and 1-0 in the conference,
while Pacific falls to 2-1-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the NWC following
the loss.
Asker, a freshman from Oslo, Norway, scored a goal in each half,
but it was super sub Derek Karamatic who got the Lutes going. Within
five minutes of entering the match, Karamatic assisted on a pair
of PLU goals, both coming in the 29th minute. First, he hooked up
with Michael Ferguson, who did a quick turn and hit a bullet into
the upper corner of the net. About 20 seconds later, Karamatic connected
with Asker and the Norwegian put the ball in the back of the net
for his first tally of the contest. Asker finished the scoring in
the 52nd minute, converting a penalty kick. He leads the Lutes in
scoring with four goals.
Pacific Lutheran had a 14-7 shot advantage and put pressure on
Pacific goalie Jory Shene, who came up with three saves. Andrew
Croft had two saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal for the
winning Lutes.
The Lutes return to action next Saturday, Sept. 23, when they host
the George Fox Bruins in another conference contest.
