Match Statistics
TACOMA, Wash. - Mark Conrad scored for host Puget Sound in the
eighth minute and Baard Asker answered for Pacific Lutheran in the
29th minute as the Loggers and Lutes battled to a 1-1 draw in a
Northwest Conference men's soccer match played Wednesday afternoon
at Baker Stadium.
Conrad picked up the goal, his first of the season, at 7:53 when
Scott Blanchett fed a cross from the left side, allowing Conrad
to finish right, giving the Loggers (7-1-2, 4-1-2 NWC) a 1-0 lead.
Asker scored his eighth goal of the season, tying him for the team
lead with Mike Ferguson, from a direct free kick. His first effort
missed the mark, but he was given another try because a Puget Sound
defender moved too soon. Asker's next kick was perfectly struck
to the upper corner, leaving UPS goalkeeper Pete Van Sant with no
chance.
The Loggers had a chance to win it in regulation but missed a penalty
kick. In the second overtime period, an apparent handball in the
penalty box by a Puget Sound defender was not called by the referee.
PLU goalkeeper Andrew Croft made four saves, while Van Sant made
six saves in the draw.
The Loggers and Lutes will meet again next Wednesday in the second
game of a Northwest Conference doubleheader at Mount Tahoma High
School in Tacoma, Wash. The schools' women's teams meet at 5:30
p.m., followed by the men's match.
