Loggers Stifle Pacific Lutheran, 2-0
Match Statistics
The Puget Sound Loggers (9-1-2 overall, 6-1-2 NWC) used a smothering
defense and a goal in each half to register a 2-0 victory over the
Pacific Lutheran Lutes (8-5-1 overall, 5-3-1 NWC) in a Northwest
Conference match played Wednesday night at Mt. Tahoma High School.
Byron Conforti put the Loggers on the board at 14:02 of the first
half when he tapped in the rebound of Scott Blanchet’s shot.
Pacific Lutheran goalkeeper Andrew Croft dove to his right for the
save, but Conforti ran in alone on the back side for the easy goal.
With Pacific Lutheran growing increasingly frustrated in the second
half and pushing forward looking for the equalizer, Puget Sound
got an insurance goal from Greg Swanson at 81:23. Danny Murty took
the ball down into the right corner and hit a cross along the ground
to Swanson, who scored from about 10 yards out.
Puget Sound goalkeeper Pete Van Sant was forced to make only two
saves as the Lutes either were forced into long-range shots or failed
to make connecting passes deep in their offensive end. Pacific Lutheran
out-shot the Loggers, 9-6, but UPS put four of their shots on goal
compared to only two for PLU.
