Three Lutes Named to All-NWC First Team
in Men's Soccer
All-NWC
Men's Soccer
A pair of juniors and one freshman who played key roles in Pacific
Lutheran’s third-place finish have earned All-Northwest Conference
First Team men's soccer honors as announced today by the conference
office.
Junior defender Brian
Lubeck (Glendale, Ariz. / Mountain Ridge HS), junior
forward Mike Ferguson
(Sumner, Wash. / Auburn Riverside HS) and freshman midfielder Baard
Asker (Oslo, Norway / Wang) were chosen to the first
team in a vote of conference coaches.
Lubeck, a three-year starter, directed a young but talented back
line that limited Northwest Conference opponents to an average of
0.77 goals per game, second only to conference champion Puget Sound.
Ferguson, also a three-year starter, continued his assault on the
Pacific Lutheran career goal-scoring record with a team-best 11
goals for the season, including seven in conference matches. With
35 career goals, he has a chance to eclipse the school record of
49 set by Brian Gardner (1986-89).
Asker finished second among PLU players with 10 goals, and he tied
Ferguson for second among NWC players with seven goals in conference
matches.
The only other PLU player receiving all-conference recognition
was freshman midfielder Henrik
Oiseth (Oslo, Norway / Wang), named as an honorable
mention selection.
Pacific Lutheran finished third in the Northwest Conference standings
with a 9-4-1 record, and for the season the Lutes ended up with
a 12-6-1 mark.
