PARKLAND, Wash. - The Lutes finished off a weekend sweep with a 3-0 win over the Simpson College Storm at PLU field on Sunday, improving their record to 2-4.

Senior forward Mike Ferguson led the Lutes with three goals over the weekend, including two against Simpson. Ferguson started off the scoring for the Lutes with a right-footed shot from 10 yards out only 1:24 into the match, assisted by junior midfielder Andy Stolz. Senior midfielder Erik Gracey put up the Lutes’ second point with 12 minutes left in the first half on a left-footed kick from the right side of the goal. Ferguson scored his second goal at the 88:10 mark with another strike from the left side.

Freshman goalkeeper Daniel Mangum recorded two saves in his second straight shutout since taking over the starting role. He has been in goal for both of the Lutes’ wins this season.

The Lutes out-shot the Storm 20-5 for the match, and held a huge 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. Simpson goalkeeper Josh Youngman recorded eight saves as the Lutes consistently attacked the goal.

The Lutes return to action September 22, taking on the Pacific Boxers in Forest Grove, Ore., at 2:30 p.m.
