Box Score
FOREST GROVE - Ryan Hanna spoiled Pacific's inaugural match at Lincoln
Park Stadium Saturday, scoring the match's only goal four minutes
into overtime to give Pacific Lutheran a 1-0 Northwest Conference
men¹s soccer victory over Pacific.
Mike Ferguson started the scoring drive with a takeaway at midfield.
Ferguson passed to Erik Gracey, who passed immediately to Hanna
who was running along the left side and buried the ball in the left
hand corner for his first collegiate goal.
The goaled ended a match that saw both teams frustrated by their
inability to convert scoring opportunities. Pacific Lutheran (2-3-0,
2-0-0 NWC) out-shot Pacific 16-8 for the match and held a massive
12-1 advantage in corner kicks. The match also proved physical,
with 34 fouls, five yellow cards and one red card issued between
the two sides.
Pacific Lutheran¹s best opportunity in regulation came in the
26th minute when Ferguson shot the ball directly into Boxer goalie
Andrew Stevermer's hands from five yards out, one of 10 saves on
the day for the freshman. The ball was knocked out of bounds, and
on the ensuing
corner kick Derek MacLean shot the ball into the side of the net.
Danny Williams nearly broke it open in the 79th minute with a strike
straight to the middle of the net, but PLU goalkeeper Daniel Mangum
jumped straight up to block the attempt. The ball deflected straight
back to Travis Birrell, but Mangum also got his hands on the ball
for two his three saves on the afternoon.
