Brian Lubeck has been a starter
since his freshman year at PLU. The central defender earned
first team All-Northwest Conference men's soccer honors last
season as he directed a young but talented back line that limited
Northwest Conference opponents to an average of 0.77 goals per
game.
Describe
your family. How have they helped you in your athletic career?
My family is supportive, energetic, creative, and disciplined
which has ultimately shaped my own personality. My father and
mother had the foresight to enroll me into sports programs early,
hoping I would learn a bit about leadership and teamwork. Consequently,
soccer took traction in my life and I suppose the rest is history.
Describe any hardships or
extenuation circumstances that you have faced to get to where
you are today.
Injury is the most extenuating circumstances an athlete
can encounter and I believe that I have had my fair share.
What made you decide to come
to PLU?
Academically, I was looking for a small, intimate school
facilitating closer relationships with professors. I have always
had an affinity for the northwest and wanted an excuse to drink
more coffee (I didn’t realize it rains so much).
Have you studied abroad?
If so, describe your experiences?
I just returned from Spain this last
spring 2007 and truly did enjoy myself. I stayed with a Senora
and met some pretty amazing people. I feel I had a typical experience
(i.e. travel, language, social life, work and personal growth).
What
has been your favorite class at PLU?
Business Ethics with Brendan Hogan.
Have you had any trouble
balancing athletics with academics?
Sometimes it can be difficult and grueling, especially
when you are on the road. But I am here at PLU for two reasons,
to play soccer and to graduate, sometimes in that order but not
necessarily. Ultimately, you get it done.
What are your plans after
college?
Currently I am looking to enroll into an internship for
the Spring and Summer 2008 and eventually I would like to see
myself in Graduate School or Law School.
When your athletic career
is all said and done, what is it that you would want people to
say about you?
I would rather no one said anything at all but rather
rejoiced in knowing that we won a Northwest Conference Championship
in 2007 and made waves in the National Tournament.
Describe your hometown and
what you miss about it the most.
I live in a suburb of Phoenix, which is the fifth largest
city in the U.S. Glendale is extremely “cookie cutter”
and has a sadly limited ethnic blend. However, it is HOME and
I miss family.
What's your favorite spot
on campus?
The grass area outside of the Admin building.
What is your favorite restaurant
in Tacoma?
Pour at Four or Primo Grill
What music is playing in
your ipod right now?
3,100 songs!
