MEN'S TENNIS: Lutes Face Key; Peterson
Honored
THIS WEEK: Pacific Lutheran at Linfield, Saturday,
10 a.m.; PLU at George Fox, Saturday, 3 p.m.
PETERSON HONORED BY NWC: Lute freshman Justin
Peterson went 3-0 in both singles and doubles action last week to
earn Northwest Conference Player of the Week honors. He played No.
2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles and No. 1 doubles and No. 2 doubles (twice)
as the Lutes beat Puget Sound once and Whitworth twice.
BIG MATCH FOR LUTES: When Pacific Lutheran and
Linfield played each other back on Feb. 9 during the opening weekend
of the season, the Lutes pulled out a narrow 5-4 decision at the
UPS Tennis Pavilion. That match was played as part of the PLU/UPS
Invitational that brought together some of the top NCAA Division
III squads on the West Coast. The two squads are in a fierce battle
for second place in the Northwest Conference standings with the
Lutes in second with a 12-2 mark, followed by the Wildcats at 10-3.
Expect a tightly contested match on Saturday morning.
MORE SATURDAY ACTION: In addition to playing Linfield
in the morning, the Lutes also face George Fox at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The Lutes have had few matches at home and the first meeting against
the Bruins was to be one of those. Instead, the match was moved
to the UPS Tennis Pavilion because of bad weather. PLU won that
contest, 9-0, and are favored against the Bruins who are currently
4-10 in conference matches this season.
