Lutes Sweep Conference Tennis Matches from
George Fox, UPS
Pacific Lutheran came out a winner in a trio of tennis matches
played on Friday afternoon. Playing with a split squad, the PLU
men improved their record to 5-1 against Northwest Conference opponents
on Friday afternoon with easy victories over hosts George Fox and
Puget Sound.
Men vs. Puget Sound: Box
Score
One team of Lutes faced George Fox in Newberg, Ore., and
PLU rolled to an 6-3 victory. A second group of Lutes went against
Puget Sound over at the UPS Tennis Pavilion and chopped up the Loggers,
9-0.
PLU had four of its top six players for the UPS match, and it was
never close as the Lutes started with a doubles sweep, followed
by singles victories in which they did not lose a single set.
In doubles play, the No. 1 team of Justin Larimore and Justin Peterson
were 8-5 winners, while Jared Vidano and Jamie Crosetto won at No.
2, 8-4. That duo usually plays No. 3 doubles for PLU. Scott Shelton
and newcomer Brent Smoots handled their opponents at No. 3 by an
8-3 score.
The singles winners looked like this: No. 1 Larimore, 6-1, 6-1;
No. 2 Peterson, 6-2, 6-4; No. 3 Vidano, 6-1, 6-4; No. 4 Sheldon,
6-3, 6-2; No. 5 Tory Silvestrin, 6-2, 6-1; and No. 6 Smoots, 6-1,
7-6.
