REDLANDS, Calif. - Pacific Lutheran gave No. 11-ranked Redlands
all it could handle before the Bulldogs were able to pull out a
6-3 men's tennis victory on Tuesday afternoon at the University
of Redlands.
The Lutes (10-7 overall) started out well with victories in two
of the three doubles matches. Kevin Floyd and Justin Larimore teamed
up to beat Eric Wagar and Ransom Cook, 8-4, at the No. 1 doubles
spot, and Jared Vidano and Scott Sheldon defeated Jeff Hammond and
Keven Wong, 8-5, at No. 3 doubles.
Redlands (14-2 overall) was able to stem the tide by winning five
of the six singles matches, though two PLU players stretched their
opponents to three sets. Larimore battled Wagar at No. 2 singles
before losing, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, and Justin Peterson made Aron Ouye
earn the win at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.
Pacific Lutheran's lone singles win came from Michael Manser at
No. 4 where he defeated Mike Reading, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1.
PLU concludes its spring break trip with three more matches over
the next two days. The Lutes face Pomona-Pitzer at Claremont, Calif.,
at 2 p.m. Wednesday before playing two matches on Thursday. They
got against Middlebury (Vt.), ranked No. 4 in Division III men's
tennis, in Claremont at 9 a.m., then travel up to Santa Barbara
for a 4:30 p.m. exhibition against the Harvard University junior
varsity.
