Justin has been among the top
six singles players throughout his four-year career at Pacific
Lutheran. In fact, he made a huge impact during his freshman season
(2005) when he compiled a 15-5 singles record, including a 12-0
mark in conference play. Last year, he teamed up with David Miller
to finish with a 17-6 record and earn All-America honors in doubles.
Describe
your family. How have they helped you in your athletic career?
My entire family has been very supportive of my athletic career.
My parents placed me in sports at a very young age and never put
too much pressure on me to succeed.
What factors led to your
decision to attend PLU?
My older brother, Matt, attended PLU, and
my high school tennis coach (Jeff Allen) became the co-head coach
of PLU’s tennis team as well. Honestly, PLU was a last minute
decision, but was a definite fit for me.
What has been your favorite
class at PLU?
I enjoy all of my marketing classes here in the School of Business.
I like the way the school has connected to local businesses, allowing
students to take the concepts you learn in your studies and lectures
and apply them to the companies you work for through class.
Have you had any trouble
balancing athletics with academics?
It can be very difficult to manage athletics and academics at
the same time. When you put in two hours a day for practice and
your weekends are filled with travel and games, it can be difficult
to balance at times.
What are your plans after
college?
I plan on pursuing a marketing position with a big corporation.
So far I haven’t committed to anything yet, but I am excited
to start a career.
When your athletic career
is all said and done, what is it that you would want people to
say about you?
I would hope that people would note that throughout high school
and collegiate tennis, I never settled for anything less than
a first place finish. Four year in high school meant four state
titles. Three years at PLU has meant three conference titles.
Right now I have my eyes set on another title.
Describe your hometown and
what you miss about it the most.
My hometown (Puyallup) is only twenty minutes away, and I still
live there.
What's your favorite spot
on campus?
Morken
What is your favorite restaurant
in Tacoma?
The Harmon. That’s where my girlfriend and I went on our
first date.
What music is playing in
your ipod right now?
I’m kind of a music junkie, so a little bit of everything.
