SOFTBALL: Three Weeks Later, Lutes Back
in Action
THIS WEEK: Pacific Lutheran at Saint Martins (DH),
Saturday, noon.
SEASON OPENER II: Pacific Lutheran got its 2008
season underway during the first two days of February, playing four
games against a pair of opponents in California. The Lutes split
with Concordia, winning the opener 7-3 before losing 1-0, then dropped
a pair of Vanguard, 5-0 and 8-2. Now, three weeks later, the Lutes
return to competition when they play a doubleheader at noon Saturday
against Saint Martin’s University in Lacey.
RECENT HISTORY: Last season, the Lutes swept the
Saints by a pair of 5-2 scores in their season opener. Those games
were played on Feb. 25. During the 2006 season, the Lutes took three
of four games from the NCAA Division II Saints. PLU opened its season
on Feb. 25 with a split, winning 8-0 and losing 3-2. Several days
later, the Lutes whipped Saint Martin’s, 9-4 and 7-4.
CONFERENCE OPENER APPROACHING: The Lutes open
their 2008 Northwest Conference season on the road during the first
weekend in March. They travel to Newberg, Ore., to play George Fox
in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 1, and the following day head
to Portland to face Lewis & Clark in another NWC twinbill. PLU’s
first scheduled home games come on March 8-9 when the Lutes host
Whitworth in a four-game Northwest Conference series. All of those
doubleheaders are scheduled to start at noon.
