Redlands Sweeps Lutes in Doubleheader

REDLANDS, Calif. - Redlands swept Pacific Lutheran
in softball doubleheader played Saturday afternoon, winning 6-0
and 7-2.
The losses drop PLU to 11-13 for the season.
Olivia Ellis and Katie Brnca combined to shut out
the Lutes on just four hits in the opener. Hadley Schmitt took the
loss for the Lutes, allowing eight hits and four earned runs while
striking out four.
The Lutes fell behind 1-0 in the second game, then
tied it in the third when Caitlin Brown led off with a single and
scored on a two-out triple by Heather Walling. Redlands came with
two runs in the fourth and four more in the sixth to open up a 7-1
lead. PLU got its final run when Walling hit her second triple of
the game and scored on a throwing error.
Walling and Brown both had a pair of hits as the Lutes
collected seven during the game. Rachel Wheeler-Hoyt took the loss,
allowing 10 hits and four earned runs while striking out six Redlands
batters.
