PORTLAND, Ore. - Pacific Lutheran and Lewis & Clark split a
Northwest Conference swim dual Friday night, the Lute men winning
145-45 and the L&C women taking a 133-72 triumph.
The biggest news of the night for the Lutes was the winning women's
100 backstroke time recorded by Jessie
Donovan. The freshman out of Mount Vernon clocked 59.74,
the third fastest time in PLU women's history. In addition, her
time is a provisional qualifying time for the NCAA Division III
national meet scheduled for March in Houston, Texas.
Senior Jason
Hesla and sophomore Andy
Stetzler were both double-event winners for the Lutes.
Hesla swam to victory in the 400 individual medley (4:44.40) and
the 100 breaststroke (1:04.63), while Stetzler took the 200 freestyle
(1:50.52) and the 100 freestyle (49.90). Other Lute swimmers winning
men's events were senior David
Pedack in the 500 freestyle (5:32.89), freshman Matt
Kim in the 50 free (24.11), and freshman Kyle
Maxwell in the 100 butterfly (58.65).
Pacific Lutheran also won both men's relay events. Starting off
the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay (1:45.93) were Pedack,
Hesla, Kim and freshman Luke
Weinbrecht. The foursome of Weinbrecht, freshman Ben
Lilley, Kim and Stetzler finished the meet with a win
in the 200 freestyle relay (1:32.50).
On the women's side, the Lutes had a pair of event winners in freshmen
Mica Bailey,
who won the 50 freestyle (25.95) and Donovan in the 100 backstroke
(59.74).
Pacific Lutheran returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday when it hosts
