The Pacific Lutheran swim team dropped both meets to a dominating
Whitworth squad in a Northwest Conference swim dual Friday night.
The Pirates, who are undefeated in the NWC, won the men’s
matchup, 141.5-58.5, and also took the women's competition, 126-72.
The highlight of the night came from the winning women's 100 backstroke
time recorded by Jessie
Donovan. The freshman out of Mount Vernon clocked 59.49,
moving her up to second all-time in PLU women’s history. The
time also improved her provisional qualifying time for the NCAA
Division III national meet. Donovan currently has the 16th fastest
time in the country.
Other event winners on the women’s side were freshman Mica
Bailey and Tara
Johnson. Bailey won the 100 freestyle in a season best
time of 56.39, and Johnson won the 1000 freestyle with a time of
12:01.31.
On the men’s side sophomore Andy
Stetzler was the single event winner for the Lutes.
He won the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:00.85.
The loss moves the PLU men to 4-2 and the women to 3-3. Pacific
Lutheran returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday when it hosts the
Whitman Missionaries in another Northwest Conference dual meet.
